How to Bring Luck to Your Home in 2018 - The Year of The Dog

Happy New Year!

Yes, I know we celebrated the beginning of 2018 about a month and a half ago. I meant Happy Chinese New Year! Didn’t somebody say that January is a free trial month. Well, I took it literally. Talk about managing your time and working on those new years resolutions, am I right?

Ok, no more stalling. I am on it! According to the Chinese calendar, it’s the year of the dog. As a dog person, (or a dog lover, your choose how to label it) I really wanted to learn more about the symbolism of this Chinese zodiac sign and I decided to share it all with you. Not to mention that there's a few suggestions below of how to use the power of this divine creature to bring luck into your home.

As you probably know, the Chinese use a lunar based calendar to determine the beginning and ending of the year, which change around the first weeks of February quite often. On the other hand, the Western world uses predominately the solar calendar where the New Year always falls on the same day, January 1st. Kind of boring, but probably easier to remember.

Based on the Chinese calendar, 2018, which is the year of the dog, begins on February 16, #Friyay. Horayyy! One more thing to celebrate this weekend. How excited are you?

The Chinese New Year is not just one day celebration. It lasts two weeks. That’s what I call New Year’s party! On the first day you shouldn’t be doing any household chores like cleaning, taking out the trash or doing laundry as it could bring you bad luck. The second day is dedicated to visiting your relatives, which should be avoided on the third day as it may lead to family drama. Well, that’s a little superstitious but I’d do anything to avoid family drama. So I guess it doesn't hurt to try.

There are many different recommendations of things to do or to avoid each day. But my two favorite things are the lantern festivals on the last day of the new year's celebration and, of course, the exchanging of gifts.

That’s why I picked a few crystal products from The Crystal Wonderland's store that can help bring good luck to you and your home in the year of the dog.

First and foremost, our beautiful Crystal Dog Figurine that is heavy enough to be a useful paperweight. Great gift for any dog lover, it is not surprisingly one of the most popular gifts in our store for 2018. A must-have if I must say!

Red is a color associated with good luck and prosperity in China, and much of the holiday decoration is in red and gold. It is considered that the red color can drive away bad spirits, therefore wearing red or incorporating it into your home decor can attract good luck.
